Two Ring Nebulae around Blue Supergiants in the Large Magellanic Cloud

چکیده
Ring nebulae are often found around massive stars such as Wolf-Rayet stars, OB and Of stars and Luminous Blue Variables (LBVs). In this paper we report on two ring nebulae around blue supergiants in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The star Sk−69 279 is classified as O9f and is surrounded by a closed shell with a diameter of 4.5 pc. Our echelle observations show an expansion velocity of 14 kms and a high [Nii]λ6583Å/Hα ratio. This line ratio suggests nitrogen abundance enhancement consistent with those seen in ejectas from LBVs. Thus the ring nebula around Sk−69 279 is a circumstellar bubble. The star Sk−69 271, a B2 supergiant, is surrounded by an Hα arc resembling an half shell. Echelle observations show a large expanding shell with the arc being part of the approaching surface. The expansion velocity is ∼ 24 km s and the [Nii]λ6583Å/Hα is not much higher than that of the background emission. The lack of nitrogen abundance anomaly suggests that the expanding shell is an interstellar bubble with a dynamic age of 2 × 10 yr.

On The Pulsational Stability of Blue Supergiants
The brightest blue supergiants represent the most massive evolved stars known. They are believed to be in the core helium-burning phase of evolution. To discuss the question of their stability, model interiors of core helium-burning stars with hydrogen-burning shells have been constructed and tested for pulsational instability (15-1000 M0). All models are found to be extremely stable against nu...
متن کاملThe orientation within the Galaxy and the Large Magellanic Cloud of nebulae ejected by massive stars
The orientation of nebulae ejected by massive stars (Luminous Blue Variables, WR stars, SN1987A) is investigated with respect to the structure of the galaxy to which they belong. In the Galaxy, we find that the projected long axes of the nebulae most often align with the galactic plane, and then also with the galactic magnetic field. This alignment is statistically significant. In addition, a f...
متن کاملStellar Winds from Massive Stars
We review the various techniques through which wind properties of massive stars – O stars, AB supergiants, Luminous Blue Variables (LBVs), Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars and cool supergiants – are derived. The wind momentum-luminosity relation (e.g. Kudritzki et al. 1999) provides a method of predicting mass-loss rates of O stars and blue supergiants which is superior to previous parameterizations. Assu...
متن کاملOf the the Motions of the Magellanic Clouds
In 1917 I called attention to an apparent systematic difference between the radial velocities of the gaseous nebulae in the northern and southern parts of the Large Magellanic Cloud, suggesting that this difference might result from a rotation of the cloud. In 1920 Hertzsprung proposed the simpler explanation, namely, “that all parts of the cloud are moving parallel and with the same speed in s...
متن کاملThe population of Magellanic Cloud planetary nebulae
In this review we address the progress that has been made toward the understanding the population of Magellanic Cloud planetary nebulae since the last Magellanic Cloud Symposium. Planetary nebulae in the Clouds are not only important as key probes of stellar and ISM evolution in these galaxies, but also reflect the evolution of AGB stars and beyond in lowmetallicity environments. We present the...
